Follow Your Heart. Create Art.

I had a sweet note telling me that I was featured on Laundry today. It’s a kewl blog by another graphic designer.

She said “I initially fell in love with the custom illustration on the front but then I desired it more for its truly appealing message, “Serves as a reminder to do what you love. . . with your heart & soul.”. This shirt is truly a heart stopper!

And what she said got me thinking….back to a time when I had no clue what I wanted to do for a career…Well I did, but was scared to make the leap of faith and choose Art as a major…So I went with Mass Comm…

I remember drooling over the amazing imagery, art & architecture in my Art History classes in college, and the stunning visuals in my Cinematography class, learning how color affects us in my Color Theory class, and getting butterflies in my stomach when I developed and printed my very first black & white photograph in Intro To Black & White Photography….but I ended up with a Mass comm degree, that I don’t really use. But my minor encompasses almost every dream of mine. Art & Design.

I have always been an artist. I like to make things. I like to draw. Paint. Show my toddler son how the concrete driveway at our church sparkles like diamonds when the sun shines down on it. I’ve been known to stop on the side of the road just to snap a photo of intricate shadows on the ground. { { { { {Beauty} } } } } I adore seeking it. Creating it. And admiring it.

Where am I going with this…you ask? Well, I always had a dream to be an artist & do what I love. Well here i am today. Doing just that. I am blessed. Honored. Humbled. Amazed. And happy. I was never happy answering phones or doing mundanely repetitive tasks.

Now I work for myself, and create what I want, when I want, and I feel free. Free to let my creativity run wild. And it’s things like this blog feature that make it all worthwhile, when you feel like you wanna give up, or that you can’t possibly make a living doing what you enjoy….along comes an unexpected note that touches you to the core. If anyone “gets” my art or feels moved by one of my creations, then that is what it is all about. Art is love. Art is giving. Art is to be shared. Art is Heaven on Earth. Art is art.

I was so honored to find a convo from Angela of angelasheartwork on Etsy, saying that she blogged about my Angel Wings onesie She is expecting and wrote a beautiful poem about her “perfect gift” from God. You can check it out here.

Perfect Gift

There is a gift growing within me,
A life I long to know.
A blessing sent from up above,
Formed through perfect love.
My dream, my desire, at last will be,
A living, breathing child,
A heavenly offering for me.
What praise, what adoration,
Can I express?
The true illustration,
This feeling so blessed?
I look to the heavens,
With tears in my eyes,
And thank my heavenly Father,
For this beautiful gift of life.
