Earth Day is Everyday

earth day

Today is Earth Day. One of my favorite days. It reminds us to stop what we are doing and celebrate our world and all of creation.

But we need not have a special day on the calendar to remind us.

Around here, we like to live as if everyday is Earth Day. Everyday we seek to notice the beauty on this Earth – to climb her trees, to explore her creeks, lakes, rivers, and ponds.

To watch the tiniest of ants to the biggest of animals do what they were created to do.

We watched a really amazing special on PBS the other day. (We don’t have cable TV anymore – but this was at a relatives’) It was all about Beavers. How they hear the sound of rushing water and it causes them to be alerted to start creating a dam.

Their instinct tells them what to do. And when they are finished with their day and night engineering, the water levels rise, and they keep the ecosystem running smoothly.

They even can make deserts that were completely dry heal and hold water again. There is something really beautiful about their story and how they help hold the ecosystem together by creating these amazing structures – adding strength to the river bottom and securing their future in the land.

We each can do our part – no matter how small – to keep our Earth’s ecosystem running properly. We can recycle, reduce our consumption and spending, repurpose, teach our children to care for the Earth, and generally take sustainable actions to heal the land.

Every little bit helps.

{God’s Truth on printable bookmarks}

Paul encouraged us to renew our minds with the truth when he said, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8.

{the power to move mountains}

I found this journal entry from a graphic designer. Great thought for the day…

“… if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Matthew 17:20

{courageous: the movie}

Sherwood Pictures has just announced that their much anticipated 4th movie will be named “Courageous”. The plot is about 4 officers who are all fathers, that encourage each other to be biblical heads of the household and strong father figures to their children –  as Proverbs 27:17 says:

As iron sharpens iron,
so one man sharpens another.

The Kendrick Brothers also brought us: Facing The Giants, Flywheel & Fireproof from this powerful ministry. I can’t wait to see this movie – I know it will be great, and this  is an inspirational and uplifting message that needs to be addressed in the world we are living in! May God bless this movie & ministry and may these strong positive messages speak loud and clear!

{love without words}

shopWhiteShirtBig2Candace Cameron Bure, who we all remember as DJ Tanner of Full House fame, wife and stay-at-home mother of 3, and a contributing columnist for Christian Women Online has a new line of t-shirts that are available on her website.

I particularly love this white shirt that simply says: “LOVE WITHOUT WORDS”. It really speaks to the nature of society today. When we have been hurt, we sometimes want others to show us love first before we reciprocate in some way. But this is not what God calls us to do. He asks us to forgive one another, accept one another, and above all else, to love one another as he has loved us.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” JOHN 13:34 -35

But LOVE IS AN ACTION. It is not a fleeting emotion, or a feeling. Unconditional love, or agape love as described in the bible is:

a·ga·pe 2 // (ä-gäp, äg-p)n.

1. Christianity Love as revealed in Jesus, seen as spiritual and selfless and a model for humanity.
This shirt is a great way to spread this message….

Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other;
let us really show it by our actions. 1 John 3:18 (NLT)

I may speak in tongues of men or of angels, but if I am without love, I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal. I may have the gift of prophecy, and know every hidden truth; I may have faith strong enough to move mountains; but if I have no love, I am nothing.

I may dole out all I possess, or even give my body to be burnt, but if I have no love, I am none the better.

Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offense. Love keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over other men’s sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing love cannot face; there is no limit to its faith, its hope, and its endurance.

{Proverbs 31 Ministries}

ScreenHunter_01 Aug. 04 17.06

Proverbs 31 Ministries brings God’s peace, perspective, and purpose to today’s busy woman.

Proverbs 31 Ministries is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian ministry that seeks to lead women into a personal relationship with Christ. With Proverbs 31:10-31 as a guide, Proverbs 31 Ministries reaches women right in the middle of their busy day through free daily devotions, radio program, speaking events, conferences, monthly magazine, resources, online communities, and Gather and Grow groups.

We are real women offering real-life solutions to women who are striving to maintain life’s balance, in spite of today’s hectic pace and cultural pull away from godly principles. Wherever a woman may be on her spiritual journey, Proverbs 31 Ministries exists to be a trusted friend who takes her by the hand and walks by her side, leading her one step closer to the heart of God.

{things i want to do today…}

We heart it / Visual bookmark for everyone.

I am inspired by this journal entry found via tumblr. Not exactly what my list would be like…but it definately got me thinking…

Instead of a boring old list, why not make the list sing. So while we check the items off, we can dance to the music of our lives….:)
